Things To Do this Weekend in Acadiana and Louisiana

Sugarcane season is here again and with that come the dust and dark clouds of the cane burning in our area but also the Louisiana Sugarcane Festival & Fair in New Iberia.

The Sugarcane Festival features various venues throughout New Iberia: blessing of the crop, carnival rides, food court, 4-H sugar cookery contest, Bayou Girl Scouts bake-off, coronation of Queen Sugar, judging of best decorated storefronts and homes, sugar artistry display & tasting, garden/flower, sugar cane, photography, and arts & crafts exhibits, livestock show, parades, fireworks, fais do do. Of course Down Town Alive will be swinging tonight with the Mercy Brothers at Parc Sans Souci starting at 5:30 and going till 8:30.

There is also a “Community Celebration to Honor Mickey Shunick” tomorrow (September 29th) at Parc International in Lafayette. The event begins at noon and features art, t-shirts, speeches by those involved in the search and band performances by “Whole Damn Town” at 1:30, “imagineIAM” at 2:30, and “Rareleuth” at 3:45. It will conclude with a bike ride. For more information, visit their Facebook page.

There is also Louisiana Chicken Festival in downtown Dubach, Baker Buffalo Festival in Baker, NOLA Downtown Music and Arts Festival and so much more going on in every nook and cranny of the state! You never have to sit around and wonder “What to do” in south Louisiana!

Home Sales Up 17% in Acadiana this Year

This is a quick snapshot of home sales so far this year in Acadiana and it shows that sales are up a little over 17% compared to last year.

As we can see, most price ranges saw an increase in sales this year except for a couple in the higher ranges. This is of course good news for Lafayette and Acadiana.

This is a family-friendly, free event and tonight, Jamie Bergeron & the Kickin’ Cajuns take the stage. Voted best cajun & zydeco band in Acadiana for the 7th year in a row, they will be sure to get your feet moving.

Next month, Sugar Jam will feature Devon Allman’s Honeytribe Live (blues rock) on October 20th.

Club Lego en français meets once a month in Lafayette

Keller Williams is a sponsor for the event this year so come by our tent and say hello. I will be around with my daughter.

Also today is the monthly get together of the Club Lego en français. If your child speaks French and loves to play with Lego bricks, you are welcome to join.
